Rules & Etiquette

The mat is a place of growth, respect, and shared purpose. These guidelines keep our training environment safe and our culture strong.

RESPECT & HUMILITY

  • Leave your ego at the door
  • Respect instructors and training partners at all times
  • Bow on, bow off when entering and exiting the mat

TIMING & ATTENDANCE

  • Arrive on time - late arrivals disrupt the class
  • Let your instructor know if you need to arrive late or leave early
  • Keep phones off the mat and on silent

COURTESY & COMMUNICATION

  • Supervise children at all times in the academy
  • No surprise takedowns or unsolicited techniques
  • Shake hands with higher-ranked training partners as a sign of respect

HYGIENE & GEAR

  • Train in clean, undamaged gear (matching gi tops and bottoms)
  • Trim fingernails and toenails before every session
  • Tie long hair back securely

SPARRING & SAFETY

  • Respect the belt hierarchy during rolls
  • Spar with control - no reckless techniques
  • Wear a mouthguard and cover any open wounds
  • Be aware of your surroundings on a shared mat

USE YOUR BJJ WISELY

  • Use your training for personal growth and self-defence
  • Never use your skills for aggression or intimidation
  • Represent the academy with integrity on and off the mat
