Classes

GI BJJ

The art of the kimono

ABOUT THIS CLASS

Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the traditional form of BJJ, practised wearing the gi (kimono). The gi introduces a rich layer of grip fighting that transforms every exchange on the mat. Collar chokes, sleeve control, lapel guards and sweeps all become available when you and your training partner are wearing the kimono.

The fabric slows the game down and rewards patience, precision and timing over raw athleticism. If you are drawn to the strategic side of martial arts, Gi BJJ is where you will thrive. It is the best way to build a deep, technical foundation that translates to every other grappling discipline.

Every session is structured so that complete beginners and experienced practitioners can train side by side. The coach adapts each technique to your level and your training partner helps you learn in a safe, collaborative environment.

WHAT A TYPICAL CLASS LOOKS LIKE

One hour. Three phases. All skill levels.

15 MINUTES

WARM UP

Movement drills, hip escapes, breakfalls and light partner exercises. Everything is scalable to your fitness level. The goal is to get your body moving and your mind focused.

30 MINUTES

TECHNIQUE

The coach demonstrates 2 - 3 techniques, then you drill them with a partner. Collar chokes, guard passes, sweeps, submissions. Ask questions, take your time, and repeat until it clicks.
